Kerala University College of Teacher Education, Kunnam, Mavelikara is one among the prestigious teacher education colleges of University of Kerala recognized by NCTE . The college started in 1994 at Chathiyara , Thamarakulam and shifted to Kunnam Mavelikara in 2002 keeping in mind the educational developments in rural area. Kunnam is a small village beside the Achenkovil River. The Campus is situated at a natural setting in Kunnam near Mavelikara Town. The beauty of rural places makes the campus an ideal place for education. As the college is away from town area, the campus is not affected by the disturbances caused by the traffic and other pollution. Now the college has 50 student in each five optional subjects – Hindi, Mathematics, Physical Science, Natural Science and Social Science. Teaching faculty consists of the Principals 13 staff and there are 6 Non teaching staffs, all are appointed as per NCTE norms.

The college was started in 1994 at Chathiyara, Thamarakulam and was shifted to Kunnam in 2002. The Government High School Campus Kunnam was selected for college campus. At the beginning there were only two blocks of buildings of High School handed over to University of Kerala for starting B.Ed Courses with the financial support of MLA, Sri. K .K. Shaju a new building was constructed. It was inaugurated by Sri. Adoor Prakash Hon minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Kerala State on 02/11/2004. In 2009 using the PTA Fund the first floor of this building was constructed.
